Deaf Culture

I thought I would post a little about deaf culture. With our units, we got a page all about deaf culture. One thing it talked about was how to get the attention of a deaf person.
You could either:
1. Wave
2. Stomp your foot/ bang your hand on the table
3. Tap them on the shoulder
4. Flicker the lights on and off ( mostly for getting everyone in the rooms attention)

Some other things we learned about ASL:
•facial expression is extremely important. Facial expression is the only difference between a statement and a question.
•if you see someone signing in public, it's okay to look a bit, but it's rude to stare
•there are different variations of sign language depending on where you live.

Introduction

Hey everyone. This year for my Bible class we again have to do passion projects. This time I chose to learn American Sign Language. I chose this because I am planning on taking the Deaf Studies course at Red River College next year. But to take that course I have to complete ASL 101, 102, 103. So I started ASL 101 in September. In this blog I will post a list of some of the vocabulary words we learned and hopefully post some videos as well.
